The courses at the International Education Center are designed to meet the challenges of international residents. Courses are built on an English Second Language foundation.
Lincoln English Language Courses
Class Times:

Pre-requisite: Minnesota Resident
The International Education Center offers 8 levels of English Language courses. The beginning classes incorporate basic English comprehension, grammar, diction, and reading with current events and basic life skills. The advanced courses provide English instruction necessary to comprehend, speak, write and read for productive employment and continued education. Subjects such as citizenship and family literacy are weaved through the program to ensure that every graduate has the tools required to become independent and productive members of the community.

The Pre-GED classes are offered in the afternoon session for ESL students who plan on attending the Jefferson Academy GED program. The program is designed to prepare students in math, science and American & World studies to permit an easy transition to the GED program.

Lincoln English Language School offers a family literacy program that assists new arrival families in understanding the educational system for their children and general cultural adaptation. The program is given at the school on Saturday mornings and can be offered at off-site facilities.

Pre-requisite: Students eligible to apply for citizenship.
Learning about the United States of America and the rights and responsibilities
that accompany citizenship is an important part of being a good citizen. This
course is designed as preparation for the revised US Citizenship examination.
Class Times: Individually scheduled
Pre-requisite: Level BI and above.
Conversation sessions are available with native English speaker
volunteers to assist students with American pronunciation.

Pre-requisite: Fluent and literate in the English
language
Accent reduction services are offered as a one-on-one program for students who are fluent and literate in English but retain native accents that limit effective communications with their Midwestern co-workers. Accent reduction coaches provide these services at IEC or off-site. Accent Reduction is a fee-based program.

Electives - Elective courses are offered throughout the academic year and include supplemental math, computer technology, the Arts, music, Theater, resume writing, etc. See the supplemental sheet in your registration packet for current programs.
Elective Weeks – Special classes are offered to students during Winter & Spring/Summer term breaks (one week) and during Fall term break (two weeks) to explore a variety of subjects, such as: graphic arts, astronomy, drama, music, theater, history of Minnesota, architecture, world cultures, etc.
Courses will be announced prior to the elective weeks to allow students to register. The courses are free and allow students to explore multiple topics while practicing English.

Jefferson Adult Academy Courses

Test score of 236+ and TABE M9.
The GED program is built on an English Second Language foundation and provides instruction on the five areas of the GED program:
Class code 550 - Math
Class code 450 - Reading
Class code 400 - Writing
Class code 300 & 325- Science/Health
Class code 200 - American & World Studies
Pre-requisite: Enrollment in the GED Program
The GEDi program is a supplemental GED internet program that enables students to study and use practice tests on the internet. Students are able to purchase individual subsidized computers from IEC for $200.00 or use the on-site computer labs.
Pre-requisite: Prior secondary instruction
The Finishing School incorporates the Jefferson Academy GED program, Lincoln’s ESL program and the Washington College Preparatory Accuplacer course. A specific class schedule is tailored for each student according to educational level.

Washington College Preparatory Courses
Class Times: Monday – Friday 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Pre-requisite : High School diploma or GED enrollment and instructor recommendation.
The college preparation course covers the orientation process, class selection, college academic structure, study techniques, field trips to area colleges, the application process, financial aid, etc

The International Education Center Accuplacer Prep Course prepares students to pass the Accuplacer at a level that will allow students to enroll in college credit courses.
Class Times: Monday – Friday 9:00 AM – 12:00 Noon
Pre-requisite : International High School or College
Diploma.
The International Education Center offers a fee based program to prepare students for the TOEFL test. The fee is $550.
An Accuplacer summer camp is offered from July 7 – August 21, 2009 for ESL high school graduates and seniors that have not passed all or specific portions of the Accuplacer Test. The summer school has a $50 materials fee.
