Corporate Academy
IEC’s Corporate Academy provides customized ESL
courses and workplace education on-site or on campus for specific employee
groups and companies. The Corporate Academy is designed to meet the specific
needs of an employer and their international employees. IEC instructors
meet with pertinent personnel to ascertain perceived inadequacies and
evaluate student language proficiency to design a format that meets the
needs of the organization.
The program opened in March of 2008 providing English Second Language
and training services at Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) for 43
international employees.
“The on-site program has been critical for us – employee safety and patient safety depend on our employees’ ability to communicate. IEC has taken that extra step to understand our mandatory requirements for employees – Linda’s (IEC Education Director – Linda Huntzicker) really customized and tailored this program to fit our own needs. I know the managers of the employees in the class have been very supportive of the program.”

The HCMC program has expanded to include two levels of instruction and a new program opened at Franklin Bakery.
“We’ve been very pleased with the results of the class provided by IEC – our employees are making more efforts to speak English and are starting to feel more comfortable with it. From an employer standpoint, customized on-site English language classes are extremely important. With our growth has come new software systems, new regulations and equipment. English comprehension has become more and more important – it’s now a requirement. It’s absolutely crucial for our employees.”

- Educates American born employees on the culture and heritage of their international co-workers.
- Highlights the assets that new immigrants bring to a community and corporation pursuant to an emerging era of global labor forces and markets.
- Provides an interactive program that emulates the challenges of being an immigrant in any country
The program allows
American born personnel to experience life in the countries of their
international co-workers and the challenges of surviving in a country
