Adult Basic Education
The International Education Center (IEC) is an Adult Basic Education program located in downtown Minneapolis. We serve a diverse population with a student body representing over 60 countries and 35 languages. We’ve been helping immigrants and refugees in the Twin Cities achieve their goals and fulfill their dreams since 1991.
We offer several classes, including:
- English as a second language (ESL) instruction for immigrants and refugees
- GED preparation courses for native and non-native speakers of English
- Math classes
- Computer classes
See the “Classes tab” for a list of all of the classes offered at the IEC and a class schedule.
Our mission is "to provide tools by which first generation immigrants, refugees and their families become independent and productive members of the Twin Cities community."
We define these tools as increased cultural proficiency, self-sufficiency, employability, and civic engagement. Our core programming includes curriculum to support students entering and retaining employment, entering postsecondary education and training, and U.S. cultural proficiency.
